snip snip

So the other day at work there was a mass email sent, notifying us of the company's continuous downward spiral, etc. It also indicated there would be more cuts coming, possibly layoffs, or hour reductions, and pay cuts for salaried employees. Naturally, that made me jittery for the rest of the week. Well the good news is I still have a job. The bad news is everyone has to take a mandatory 80 hours of unpaid time off between now and January 31st, and also reduce our accrued vacation time to near zero hours by that time. So this averages out to taking 4 hours off every week unpaid. It doesn't sound like much, and really, it could be worse, but it's still a chunk of my paycheck (10% if you think about it), and it's still going to affect us. But there isn't much I can do. Spend less, try to maybe cook once in a while, give up coffee. We'll see how it goes.

It could be worst - are you looking for a new job? many times, layoffs over a period of a year or two usually mean the company is not doing so well.

Yikes. It really could be worse but it still sucks. But just think of all the fun things you could do with 4 extra hours in your day!

well yeah, the company's not doing well, that's a little obvious. but no, i'm not looking for another job. that would but pointless. it's only 4 hours. i would never find something equal to what i have now.

What I meant by my comment is, do you actually think your company will survive? Usually, when multiple layoffs, plus pay cuts happen, its a really bad sign. Also, how many people have taken new jobs?
