Goodwill, explained

Through my weekly (and sometimes more than that) adventures to Goodwill, I've really gotten a feel for how it works. What I mean by that is how the inventory moves through the store. Every Sunday, there is a new color-tag sale. For example, today was the green-tag sale, meaning anything with a green tag is 50% off. The sale runs Sunday and Monday, then on Tuesday, items with that color tag are all $1.49. (Like this sun dress!) After that, I believe any items that are left with that color tag are removed from the store for good and shipped off to who knows where (not completely sure about this process). The following Sunday will begin a new color-tag sale. So next weekend will be yellow, then blue, then back to green. So nothing in the store remains for more than 3 weeks. However, some items have red tags, which generally means it came from Target as clearanced items they couldn't sell. Then there is furniture, which is tagged separately.

So lately, I've really been watching my colors. I find that most things in the store are overpriced, but if I can hold out until it goes half-price, then I'm getting a deal. This doesn't always work out though. Today, for instance, I totally did not get the 3 Musketeers wall hangings I was after. I mean, really, why didn't I just pay the $3.99 for each of them when I had the chance? I was disappointed, but moving on. So the past few Sundays, I have lined up at the door with everyone else in an attempt to get the items I've been watching. It payed off last weekend after I had been eyeing this lamp. Got it for $5. I already had the lampshade from a garage sale, ($3) and had been waiting for the perfect lamp to come along.

I've also been going through the clothes a little. Not something I usually do, just because it's so time-consuming. But I've made it a rule to only try on items that are half-price that day. At our Goodwill, that makes jeans $3.50, and shirts $2.50. Not bad! I literally can not bring myself to pay full price for clothing anymore, unless I'm desperate. Today I also got the Keds I had been watching for $2.50. Have I mentioned I'm in love with Keds?

To sum things up, I've really been enjoying thrifting lately. It's defnitely turned into a hobby! By the way, if anyone is looking for something, I'm always happy to keep an eye out for things. You never know when it might turn up! Besides, it gives me an extra challenge!
