no pizza for me

Ivy had her food challenge today for milk at the allergist's office. They started with 1/4 ml, waited 5 minutes, then gave 1/2 ml, waited 15 minutes, and so on. When we went in, she already had some mild eczema due to dry skin. She was fine for almost the whole visit. Nothing was happening. After her last dose of 4ml, we started to notice a lot of those eczema patches were visibly redder, and she had some new spots popping up here and there. Alas, she failed the challenge. After 2 skin tests and 2 blood tests that came back negative, I was starting to get my hopes up. I really wasn't sure how it would turn out, but I kind of thought she might be over it. Even the doctor didn't think she would fail. He said most cases show reaction after the first two doses, and this is the first time he has seen a reaction occur that late in the challenge. So we are staying away from dairy for another 6 months, and then we will go back in to repeat the tests. Yay. Another 3 hours in the doctor's office trying to entertain a one-year-old.

And I was really looking forward to having a pizza and cheesecake. Bummer.
