The Host

I recently finished reading The Host, also known as Stephenie Meyer's "other book." I was hesitant to read it for a long while, especially after coming off my Twilight high. I didn't see any way it could be as good, not to mention the label of Science Fiction sort of threw me. Yes, I like to watch Star Trek, but I really don't want to read about it, know what I mean? Well, the book was not as science-fictiony as I feared, but just like any book with fantastic characters and an imaginitive storyline.

Basically, the human race has become very close to extinction due to the invasion of "souls," a species from another planet. Humans, among inhabitants of other planets, have become nothing more than "hosts" to this species. We follow the story of Wanderer, an experienced soul and first-time human. It is her mission to gain information from the memories of Melanie, her host, in order to locate other humans. But Wanderer does not anticipate her host's resistance, and we find out what happens when two minds share one body.

Ok, so maybe I suck at summarization, but here is what you need to know: THIS BOOK IS AWESOME. And the only reason I'm posting this is because I want ALL OF YOU to go read this book RIGHT NOW. This book was not what I expected at all, and it really kept me turning pages. I think Stephenie is a brilliant author, and I can't wait to see what she does next!

Thats interesting - the book is almost in my to be read pile, but reviews are very mixed, those that love it and those that hate it. I've categorized it as a book aimed at teenage girls, and usually I'm not a fan of them. If I find a cheap copy somewhere I'll give a go. Have you read Hunger Games yet?
